School Health Regulations
Richland School District One requires that school health regulations be strictly followed. Thank you for your cooperation.
Medication at School:
1) For medication to be dispensed during the school day the Richland One Medication Permission Form must be completed.
2) For prescription medication, the licensed provider’s signature must be included on the form.
3) A form is being provided in each student’s Information Bag. When making a visit to the doctor take the form and have the provider sign the prescription line. Notify the health room if you need additional forms.
4) Prescription medication must be in the properly labeled container from the pharmacy and the label must include the name of the student; the name of the medication, the dosage, and the frequency and/or time the medication is to be dispensed.
5) Over the counter medications must be in the original container and the Richland One Medication Permission Form completed.
6) Elementary students may not carry any medications to or from school. Medications must be delivered and/or picked up by the parent/guardian or by an adult the parent has secured to deliver the medication. The parent must notify the nurse with a signed or faxed statement listing who has permission to pick up the student’s medication.
7) If students need medication at school, day care, and/or home, request that the pharmacist divide the medication accordingly by preparing labeled containers for the number of places needed.
Health Room:
1) The health room is provided to temporarily manage illness and administer first aide for situations occurring during the school day. Children who are sick must remain at home. Students must be FEVER FREE for 24 hours before returning to school.
2) When a student becomes ill or injured the school will notify the parent, guardian or an emergency contact. It is very important for the health form to be filled out accurately. The health room must be notified of any changes in a child’s health status and of any changes in contact information. Home, work, cell, and emergency contact numbers must be correct and updated as changes occur.
3) If a parent or emergency contact cannot be reached and school personnel believe the student needs immediate medical attention the student will be transported by EMS to the nearest hospital emergency room.
4) The nurse, Mrs. Angie Ikerd, may be reached at (803) 695-3362 or (803) 783-5549. The fax number is (803) 695-3079.
